
Sir Ian Botham and Darren Clarke are jointly hosting their Celebrity Invitational at Archerfield Links from the 20th to the 22nd of September. The event offers two days of great golf and evening entertainment and is exclusively for players and invited guests.The event hopes to raise at least £100,000 for Leukaemia and Breast Cancer Charities – causes which Sir Ian and Darren have dedicated themselves for years.
There will be a full complement of 26 teams featuring a celebrity golfer. Apart from the hosts, other celebrities expected to attend include Hugh Grant, Boris Becker, Jamie Redknapp, Michael Vaughan, Ian Woosnam, Franz Klammer and Sam Torrance plus a group of top European Tour pros including world No.3 Lee Westwood.
“Two days of golf gives you time to get into your stride,” says Botham, whose charity walks have included a 900-mile trek from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Added Clarke: “We aim to make this a very special couple of days for all the guests and celebrities. Having some of my pals from the tour playing will give it a competitive edge as well.”
The proceedings get under way at 11 o’clock with a champagne brunch followed by a shotgun start at one o’clock on the Fidra Course. The first day’s golf will be followed by a reception and The Race-Night Dinner sponsored by Ladbrokes.
The shotgun start for the second day will be at 10am over Dirleton Links and that evening’s Gala Dinner will feature Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.
Among the attractions will be the opportunity to win a Jaguar for a hole in one. Other sponsors will include Nike, Vista Jets, Billecart Champagne, BMW Wines, Maui Jim sunglasses and Archerfield Links.
