When I arrived this week I said to my caddy, who I brought over from Scotland, that this was my favourite place in the world and it would be great to win here

South African Richard Sterne fired a final round 69 to take the Alfred Dunhill Championship title by one shot from European's Robert Rock and Johan Edfors at the stunning Leopard Creek Golf Club in South Africa.

Sterne's rounds of 68, 66, 68 and 69 gave him a seventeen under par total along with the magnificent bronze trophy of a Leopard hand crafted by Dylan Lewis.

In the final round Richard got off to a good start with birdies at the 3rd and 8th holes but then stumbled slightly with bogeys at the 10th and 12th. Consecutive birdies then came at the 13th, 14th and the par 3 treacherous 15th where his iron to the green landed in the left hand greenside bunker which he handled magnificently and from an awkward stance hit it in to two feet and holed the putt for par.

The demons that were with him on days two and three culminating in an eight and seven respectively were put firmly behind him and he finished with a regulation par five giving him his second win in South Africa in 2008, the Joburg Open being the first in January of this year.

"I didn't get off to the best of starts making the two bogeys but then made three good birdies in a row" said Sterne, "the 18th hole hasn't been my best this week but I played it sensibly and it paid off". "When I arrived this week I said to my caddy, who I brought over from Scotland, that this was my favourite place in the world and it would be great to win here" added Sterne.

Charl Schwartzel finished in a tie for 14th spot and Lee Westwood and Chris Wood were tied for 17th.

Richard now travels to Cape Town to play in the South African Open at Pearl Valley Golf Estate in Paarl where compatriot James Kingston will be looking to retain his title.
