Royal Portrush Hosts Irish Open

Darren's home course, Royal Portrush will host the Irish Open in 2012 from 28th June to 1st July. It is 65 years since the Irish Open was held here in 1947 and the Open Championship was played there in 1951.

This stunning venue is where Darren prepared himself for the rigours of Royal St George's where he claimed the Open Championship last year, and he is extremely proud that the Dunluce course will host his national Open.

Speaking at the press conference at Royal Portrush today he said, "It is fantastic news that an event of the calibre of the Irish Open is coming to Portrush, a world class event on a world class golf course. I know every inch of this course and can vouch for its quality".

"I'm pleased for everybody in this part of the world and the decision to come here reflects the amazing run this relatively small golf community has had in the last couple of years. Best of all, it will be great to sleep in my own bed during that week."

It was announced at the same time that the 2013 Irish Open will be contested at Carton House.
