Putting's Gone Belly Up
Posted: 19th November 2008
It's the belly putter for me after three of the most frustrating weeks of my sporting year. Putting has actually been my Achilles heel for some time so I desperately need to get some feel back on the greens and that's why I've decided to take the belly route. I made the decision after the Barclays in Singapore following disappointing stats there plus in my two previous events at the Volvo Masters in Spain and HSBC in China.
It was a long week in Valderrama because of all the rain delays, but at least I was on the right side of the draw and didn't play too badly. But the rain followed us to China and in hindsight I probably shouldn't have played there. Then it was on to Singapore for one of the best tournaments of the year even though there were rain delays again.
Barclays always put on a great show and this event was no different. And what a course at Sentosa. They've cut down the rough a bit so if you're in there you can actually play a shot rather than just chip out. But if they've softened it a bit there they've definitely toughened up the greens and made some run offs which had to be avoided or the water came into play. Now it's a thinking man's course and all the better for it. All in all a great week, but I still couldn't get anything to drop so after I'd finished I took the decision to go to the belly putter.
This week I'll be in London supporting Ronan Keating's gala evening in aid of breast cancer charities. It's always a good do and for a cause close to my heart.
Then after a short break I'll be heading off to Australia (haven't been there for a while so really looking forward to it) and then on to South Africa for the SA Open. Hopefully after that I'll have sorted out my putting problems and reached my season's objective of getting back into the worlds top 50.
